My Story
Every book is like a little gift from the author. Inside the beautiful wrapping, you’ll find enchanting stories full of wonder, wisdom, and surprises.
That’s what I learned from growing up in a house full of readers. Our floor-to-ceiling built-in bookshelves overflowed with every type of book imaginable but especially novels from every genre. When I was ready to graduate from the children’s book section of our little library—which included a fairly comprehensive set of Nancy Drews—my mom gave me an Agatha Christie murder mystery to read. I’ve been hooked on historical mysteries ever since. I love solving the puzzles and getting caught up in the growing suspense.
It’s no surprise that my career also involved the written word, but art and art history also joined my list of interests. I worked as an editor of three of the top art magazines in the U.S.—The Artist's Magazine, International Artist, and Fine Art Connoisseur—for many years. During that time, I wrote hundreds of articles on contemporary and historical artists, and I ghost-wrote six art instruction books.
Then I discovered fiction writing. Given my passion for art and art history, it seemed like a natural theme for my first historical mystery series, the Jade Beckham Mysteries. But I had a problem. How could I write a serial set of related novels based on famous artists from many different time periods and still have a single amateur sleuth solving every one of their mysteries? Time travel, of course!
From the cafés of Belle Époque Paris to the royal palaces of Spain and the roads of nineteenth-century Japan, I love bringing history to life through murder mysteries filled with secrets, red herrings, and surprising twists.
When I'm not writing, I'm usually researching another fascinating corner of art history, reading a good mystery, or enjoying a latte on the Washington coast.
